Bringing Everything Together

In the previous week, we saw what the larger film might look like as a whole and decided it might be better if we didn’t do it in one shot, instead creating seamless transitions between locations that involved a cut. We also considered that we needed something, such as a satchel/briefcase or ‘missing’ posters to link each part of the film together. Finally, we began to look at how we could integrate audio. Over the week leading up to this one, we went to our filming locations and wrote down sentence fragments to capture the ambience of the city.

We also developed our films further to adapt them to being cut and seamlessly blending into each other.

Watching all the adapted films together brought awareness to the fact that we had managed the pace well across the whole film, with some groups providing a more fast paced, action packed performance and plotline, and others presented more of a slow meandering across the city.

The whole thing was interesting display of Sheffield as a city, not just because of the portrayal of different buildings and attractions/trademarks about the city, but also because of the way people did (or didn’t) react to our films as they passed us by in the street. The spect-actors helped us build a clearer image of Sheffield as a city.

Next, we began to edit our films, adding music, intertitles and playing with the speed of the footage, experimenting with how this changes the overall tone of our individual sections of the film.

With the reminder that the performance was to be done next week, we spent the week leading up to it rerecording, adapting and editing music and intertitles into our part of the film.

We planned to come in on the performance day with dirty, bloody or muddied costume to enhance the theme of the missing characters. We thought we could finish the performance with us all lying in a pile in front of the audience so that when the missing posters are shown at the end of the whole film, the audience can actually see us lying in front of them.
